Dear Friends, I want to tell you about an important project to help children and their families that have experienced the death of a fallen soldier from Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq), accident or illness. Did you know that to date, we have lost 39 soldiers from Ft. Bliss with 26 being from the El Paso area and 9 from the Las Cruces / Mesilla area? As we think about "how the community can give back to the soldiers and their families that have made the ultimate sacrifice," the Children's Grief Center has come up with this important project called "Operation Mend-A-Heart" to help these families begin the healing process with the support of the community. To begin with, loving support and education for grieving children and their families is our mission. Taking care of our bereaved children who mourn the loss of a military dad or mom is our responsibility and we need your help. We have scheduled an all day "Operation Mend-A-Heart" memorial event and grief camp for the children and families of the soldiers on November 8th, 2008 to offer our support. This event covers anyone in the Permian basin area and Las Cruces/Mesilla area. If you know anyone who might benefit from this memorable event, or have questions about whether you are a candidate, please contact us. You may also contact us at 915-532-6004.
