Please join us as we recognize and support Family Survivors of Breast Cancer

Family Survivor Day
is for children, teens, their families and any adults whose lives have been forever changed by the death of a mom, spouse, friend or other loved one.

Join us as we celebrate moms, friends and other loved ones who have lost their lives to breast cancer and begin the healing journey of grief. The event will start with a continental breakfast; a memorial service and opportunities for sharing for adults and children with the purpose of beginning the healing process. Arts and crafts will be included for the kids to help facilitate their expression of loss.

This workshop is for educators, counselors, social workers and other professionals wanting to learn how to help grieving children and teens thrive at school following the loss of a loved one. It is designed to provide an understanding of the process of grief for youth and adults and offer practical techniques for assisting grieving children and families.

Goals & Objectives:

  • To educate helping professionals on the experiences of grief in children and teens and provide an understanding of the grief process
  • To understand how grief including traumatic loss can adversely impact the life of a grieving child or teen and to provide tools for healing
  • To educate professionals on how grief can impact their own personal experience and ability to assist children and teens
  • To educate professionals on the parental grief experience and how to help them help their children

Presenter Information:

This workshop is being taught by Laura Olague, M.Ed, FT, (Advance Certification from ADEC), Executive Director and co-founder of the Children’s Grief Center. Laura has been the Executive Director of the Children’s Grief Center for 15 years and counseled grieving families in hospice situations for 7 years. She has 22 years experience working with grieving families and educating the community on helping grieving children and teens to thrive following the loss of a loved one.
